Generally, holi-days are intended to allow individuals to celebrate or; commemorate an event or tradition of cultural or religious significance. Holi-day as a singular noun commonly refers to a specific day or event … We use the plural noun holi-days and holiday in similar ways. The word holiday came from an Old English word that was first recorded in 950 AD as hāligdæg (hālig for “holy” and dæg for “day”). The first recorded spelling as holiday was in 1460 AD. Around the Middle English period; it took on a new meaning as “a day when commoners were exempt from labor”. There is a difference between holi-day and Festival The festival is an event or community gathering, usually staged by a local community which centers on some theme, sometimes on some unique aspect of the community. It can be a day or more than one day like Eid Elfetr ( 2 days ) and Eid El Adha ( 3 days ). While holi-day is a day on which a festival, religious event; or national celebration is traditionally observed. For sure all of us we love to celebrate all day and night long. It doesn’t matter it’s a holiday or festival or a birthday or even a day off. The important thins is we need to please ourselves and be so happy.
